Weekend Fun

So we didn’t end up going tubing, as the trips were all filled up, and going ourselves would’ve taken way too much work and money. Inner tubes and life vests aren’t exactly lying around. So Anna and I went for lunch and a movie at the Gateway instead. We’ll try tubing next week. We saw Wall-E. Which was cute. With extra cute on the side, and some sprinkles of cute on top. And, as Anna’s friend said, there was even enough cute left over to take some home in a doggie bag. Amazing what they managed to do with very very little dialogue. I still prefer the Incredibles as a Pixar favorite, but this one was very good. Totally willing to see it again. The short before was top notch as usual. Note to self: Give him the carrot.

For the evening’s entertainment, (after we found out the boys were being lame and didn’t want to hang with us chick-types) Anna, Ki and myself headed to Carly’s place and spent a couple hours gabbing. Always a good evening in my book. There were some unfulfilled hopes of getting in the pool, but I’m sure the trip down the river next week will solve that.

Yesterday morning I was awoken by my phone, and happily, albeit groggily, headed out for breakfast with my sister. Fun times. Great weekend.

Imma goin tubing!

So I know, I’m lame cause I haven’t updated in forever, but I had to write this morning. Yesterday, a friend of mine calls up and wants to know what I’m doing today, because she and some of her friends are going tubing on the Provo River, and I was invited! I’m so excited. I’ve been reading a couple reviews from people who have gone, and it sounds like a ton of fun, but a little scary at the same time. There are some fast places and some places that’ll probably flip you into the river. We’ll see how it goes. Fortunately, it’s sunny today, so the cold water shouldn’t be too much of a problem. I’m going to take my camera along, but based on the likelyhood of falling in, I’m probably not going to actually take it down the river with me. So hopefully I’ll have some pictures for you when we get back. Wish me luck!

Edited to add: So we just found out that the trip we were going to take didn’t have enough spots open, so we’re going to try to go next weekend, and we’re going to see a movie instead.

I mean to write here more often, I really do. I just don’t actually get off my digital butt and actually do so. By way of at least writing something here’s a general update.

I went to breakfast this morning with my mother and sister. We went to a little breakfast place right by the park here. My sister, in her fit awesomeness, ran home from there. At which point she was then going to be biking around the city to get around. Grr. I know it’s going to take time for me to get the body I want. I just want it NOW! *sigh*

I finally got an art project done for an assignment from a group I chat with online. Some of the stuff they’ve come up with is pretty amazing.

Um.

There isn’t a whole lot going on right now.

Schmeh

Ran about 5/8ths of a mile today. Felt good going through the long side. Heading into the curve to the short side, and nice older man said I was looking good, and wished me a good day. I love friendly people. Almost through the short side I had to listen to my body, and stop. My shoes are old and not really built for running, and my left leg was getting a twinge up around the knee. Breathing felt great though. Not running out of breath, and being able to feel my LEGS work instead of my lungs is awesome.

The weather was that damp sort of cool that I love. It wasn’t cold, and there was no breeze to make it feel cold. Until I headed for home, it wasn’t raining either. It was just very pleasant. Several groups of kids at the park from some place in Jordan district. I can’t wait to have kids. Well… yes I can, but I’m looking forward to it. :D

Huge Strides

As of yesterday, my running record was a half mile. I’d done it twice, and each time left me breathless and floppy.

Today I figured I’d push it. I hadn’t run in two days, so my body was pretty rested. So as I started, taking a nice easy pace, I decided I’d shoot for three quarters. Breathing was great, form felt pretty good most of the time. It was easy enough I could watch the world go by as I was running. Coming around the corner to the half mile I had to pass a family. I always feel awkward passing people. My easy pace sets me going just barely faster than somefast walkers out there. I feel like I ought to speed up and breeze by them, but that takes all the wind out of me. So I was a little discouraged going into that third quarter, but I was determined.

Passed an older guy jogging just as I cleared the marker, and I still felt great so I figured why not, and I decided to push for a mile. By this time, I’m really in a good spot. I had to focus on relaxing my legs, but my breathing was great. I was breathing hard, but it was steady, and still loose enough I could breathe in through my nose every so often. When I get really winded, I can only breathe through my mouth.

I did it. I cleared a mile. For the first time possibly ever, I ran one solid mile without stopping to walk at all. I have no idea how long it took. I was going real slow. Channeling Zippy the Wonder Snail, totally.

It gets better. At a mile, I still felt great. Wasn’t running out of breath, and I finally felt like my legs were actually getting a workout. So I kept going. For those who don’t know, the concrete ring around the park is just under a mile and a half. You have to go about fifty feet past wherever you started to get that mile and a half in.

And today, I ran a mile and a half. Two days ago my record was a half mile. Today, I doubled that record! When I slowed to a walk (not much slower believe me) it was the strangest feeling. My breathing was tight, and I needed water, but my legs felt like they were lifting themselves. It was similar to the feeling I get when I’ve been walking on a treadmill for a while. Sort of floaty. I was a little lightheaded, so I took it nice and easy coming home. Tossing in the walk to and from the park, I did just over three miles total, and half of that was my run. I know I’ll have to take it easy tomorrow, probably just walk. But I did it.

Ki, I finally understand. It’s euphoric. Thanks for getting me started.

Update

All in all, a good day. Went for a walk/run at the park, and ran my farthest so far. Still under a mile, yes I’m that out of shape, but the farthest nonetheless. The army has thoughtfully put markers on the ring all over the place. No really… you can find at least three different “one mile” markers. Kinda makes you wonder about the military. But as long as you match starting point color with end point color, I figure it’s reasonably close enough to count. I know I at least ran more than a half mile. If you can call it running. I knew if I was going to get very far, I needed to take it easy, so it was probably the slowest job mankind has ever known. Other than the old guy that was jogging there too.

Bought a nifty cookbook at B&N today. Lots of tips explaining the very basics. I haven’t managed to burn water yet, but my skills aren’t far above it. With BF and I trying to save money and eat better, cooking is necessary, and enjoyable thus far. I just know I’ll want to expand my repetoire as we go along. This book has some good info on tools, the difference between mixing and blending (there’s a difference!), and some nice, easy, doesn’t require a trip to the ‘ethnic’ aisle for ingredients type recipes.

Um. I know I had other stuff I was going to write here, but I don’t remember what they are. Oh well.
