Playing Catch-Up

24 07 2008

So I totally should have posted days ago, cause we went tubing last Saturday and it was SO. MUCH. FUN. I don’t have pictures or anything, cause a camera would’ve gotten totally soaked. I managed to not get dumped in the river, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t get wet. It was a little lame at the beginning, cause they CRAMMED a ton of people onto the bus to drive us all up river, and then made us wait for like ten minutes, but after that… tons of awesome craziness. I went with the wonderful Anna and her husband, her brother, his friend, and another couple they were friends with. Most of the time we managed to hang onto each others tubes and drift down the river en masse, but there were plenty of times we got separated.

The first part of the river was rougher and faster, so you were bouncing through dips and splashes. You also had to work kinda hard to avoid the sides, which mostly bushes and trees the whole way down. At one point, I actually got caught in a little eddy and got swept backward for a minute or two, until I could paddle back out into the main flow. A few people got some scrapes and bumps from the branches on the sides, and there were a few bumps on rocks as we floated down, but nothing major. It seemed like everyone had a good time. Once or twice we got out of the tubes to stand and wait for someone to catch up, and I was always surprised how hard the river tugged on my legs. Even when it wasn’t very deep, or going very fast. I can totally understand why, even floating on a huge tube, they make you wear a life vest on the river. I did lose one of my flip flops, but since I only pay two or three bucks for a pair, I wasn’t too put out. Oh! and the water was COLD, but the day was sunny and hot, so it felt really good. Totally something I’d do again. If anyone wants to get together and go, it’s only $10, and it’s a blast.

In other news, my birthday is coming up on the 3rd. That’s a Sunday. I’d like to get people together for some fun, but I need to know when you guys are available. I’m thinking we could do something in the park Saturday. Maybe go swimming in the pool, which is only $2, and then have a barbeque or something. Maybe chase a frisbe around, let the little ones chase each other around, or ditch them completely. Maybe I’ll throw a sheet up on the back wall, and we could all watch a movie on the projector. Anyway, let me know what you’d be interested in, when you’d be available, etc.

Weekend Fun

So we didn’t end up going tubing, as the trips were all filled up, and going ourselves would’ve taken way too much work and money. Inner tubes and life vests aren’t exactly lying around. So Anna and I went for lunch and a movie at the Gateway instead. We’ll try tubing next week. We saw Wall-E. Which was cute. With extra cute on the side, and some sprinkles of cute on top. And, as Anna’s friend said, there was even enough cute left over to take some home in a doggie bag. Amazing what they managed to do with very very little dialogue. I still prefer the Incredibles as a Pixar favorite, but this one was very good. Totally willing to see it again. The short before was top notch as usual. Note to self: Give him the carrot.

For the evening’s entertainment, (after we found out the boys were being lame and didn’t want to hang with us chick-types) Anna, Ki and myself headed to Carly’s place and spent a couple hours gabbing. Always a good evening in my book. There were some unfulfilled hopes of getting in the pool, but I’m sure the trip down the river next week will solve that.

Yesterday morning I was awoken by my phone, and happily, albeit groggily, headed out for breakfast with my sister. Fun times. Great weekend.

Imma goin tubing!

12 07 2008

So I know, I’m lame cause I haven’t updated in forever, but I had to write this morning. Yesterday, a friend of mine calls up and wants to know what I’m doing today, because she and some of her friends are going tubing on the Provo River, and I was invited! I’m so excited. I’ve been reading a couple reviews from people who have gone, and it sounds like a ton of fun, but a little scary at the same time. There are some fast places and some places that’ll probably flip you into the river. We’ll see how it goes. Fortunately, it’s sunny today, so the cold water shouldn’t be too much of a problem. I’m going to take my camera along, but based on the likelyhood of falling in, I’m probably not going to actually take it down the river with me. So hopefully I’ll have some pictures for you when we get back. Wish me luck!

Edited to add: So we just found out that the trip we were going to take didn’t have enough spots open, so we’re going to try to go next weekend, and we’re going to see a movie instead.
